JioSaavn Pro offline downloads are the single feature that converts most free listeners into subscribers. The free tier streams at up to 160 kbps and needs a live connection for every track; Pro lets you save albums, playlists, podcasts and single songs to the device and play them with the radio turned off, in a metro tunnel, or on a flight. If you commute through patchy coverage, it is the difference between an app you tolerate and an app you rely on.
This guide walks through the whole flow: what the feature includes, how to start a download on Android and iOS, which quality setting to choose, how much storage a real library consumes, and the handful of fixes that resolve almost every "my download disappeared" complaint.
What JioSaavn Pro offline downloads actually include
Downloads in JioSaavn cover more than songs. Once you are on Pro you can save:
- Single tracks — tap the three-dot menu on any song and choose Download.
- Albums and playlists — one tap queues the entire set, including curated JioSaavn playlists and your own.
- Podcasts and audio shows — episodes can be saved individually or as a full series.
- Artist radios and mixes — saved as a static list at the moment you download it.
Everything you save sits inside the app, not in your phone's public music folder, so the files are encrypted and cannot be moved to another player. That is normal for subscription streaming and it is also why a cancelled subscription stops playback of saved tracks.
How to download songs from JioSaavn on Android
- Open the app and make sure you are signed in with the account that holds the Pro plan.
- Go to Settings → Audio & Downloads and set Download quality to High (320 kbps). The default may be lower to save space.
- Find the album, playlist or song you want, then tap the download arrow next to it. A progress ring appears on the cover art.
- Wait for the ring to close. A small arrow inside a circle means the item is complete.
- Turn on airplane mode and press play once to confirm playback works without a network.
To download your whole library at once, open Library → Songs, tap the select icon, choose everything and pick Download. On large libraries this can take a while, so keep the app in the foreground until it finishes.
How to download on iPhone and iPad
The iOS flow is nearly identical, with one extra step. In Settings → Downloads, enable Download over cellular if you want to save on the move; otherwise the app waits for Wi-Fi. iOS also asks for permission to store media the first time, and if you decline that prompt, downloads will queue forever. Re-enable it in iPhone Settings → JioSaavn → Media & Apple Music.
Choosing a download quality that fits your storage
Quality has a real cost. The table below shows roughly what a typical three-minute track weighs at each setting, which is the fastest way to estimate whether your phone can hold the library you have in mind.
| Setting | Bitrate | Per track | 1,000 tracks |
|---|---|---|---|
| Low | 64 kbps | ~1.4 MB | ~1.4 GB |
| Standard | 160 kbps | ~3.6 MB | ~3.6 GB |
| High | 320 kbps | ~7.2 MB | ~7.2 GB |
A 128 GB phone with 20 GB free comfortably holds 2,500 tracks at 320 kbps. If you are short on space, download albums at High and long podcasts at Standard — spoken audio gains nothing from a higher bitrate.
Download before you travel, not at the airport. Queue the albums on Wi-Fi the night before, open each one once to load artwork and lyrics, then switch the app to offline mode.
Why a downloaded song sometimes stops playing
JioSaavn licenses most of its catalogue, and a licence check is required periodically. If the app has been offline for roughly 30 days, or if a track is pulled from the catalogue, saved copies can stop working. Opening the app on a network for a minute refreshes the licence and restores playback in almost every case.
Two other causes are worth checking first: the Pro plan may have lapsed (downloads pause immediately when it does), and the device may be out of storage, in which case the app silently evicts the oldest downloads. Keeping 2–3 GB free avoids that entirely.
Offline listening beyond the phone
Downloads are device-specific. A song saved on your phone is not available on the JioSaavn web player or on a smart speaker, because those devices stream rather than store. On Windows, the desktop app keeps its own download cache in your user profile — useful on a laptop, invisible to the mobile app.
